The Protest Handbook
Our Protest Handbook is full of tips, tools and information on your rights to help you take your activism to the next level!
In 2023 we started LUS because we believe young people aren't protesting enough. Let's be clear, protesting makes a difference. From bikes in Amsterdam to fighting Shell in the courts, protests have sparked major social changes for the benefit of society. Through our research, we identified several obstacles that discourage young people from joining protests. Maybe you're unsure about your right to protest or worried about what might happen legally. That's why we put together this handbook just for you – to clear up those doubts and help you feel confident and prepared while standing up for what you believe in.
Our goal is to empower young people like you to protest confidently and safely. This handbook provides essential information for anyone looking to protest in the Netherlands.
We are incredibly thankful for the support of those who have provided us with input and feedback on this handbook, including: Jebbink Soeteman Advocaten, Stichting Rechtswinkel Migrantenand Amnesty International Nederland. Special thanks to our mentor at the Amsterdam Law Hub, Frances Singleton-Clift. Lastly, we want to thank Alert Fund for Youth for believing in young activists like us and for helping us realise our goals.
We'd love to hear from you! Protesting is a community effort, so get in touch, let us know what you think of the book and ask any other questions you may have before you go and annoy a member of parliament in your home country. We’ve got your back!
